For over 40 years the Swingle Singers have provided the title melody for one of Italy's longest-running television programmes.
Back in 1966, prolific journalist and well-loved TV presenter Piero Angela heard the Swingle rendition of J.S. Bach's "Air on the G String" for the first time. He chose it as the opening theme of his popular educational programme, SUPERQUARK, and 3000 instalments later the theme has never changed. Recently the Swingle Singers were invited to Angela's studio to explain the success of the group's 45-year career, and to promote their latest CD "Beauty and the Beatbox". The official Italian launch will take place September 30th in Milan at Italy's most important music venue, La Scala. Fifteen minutes of music and interviews will be featured in the first instalment of the new series of SUPERQUARK. Please join us for this historic encounter, as Angela's famous theme song is performed live for the first time on the programme.

Era il 1966 quando Piero Angela ascolt˜ per la prima vola l'Aria sulla quarta corda di Johann Sebastian Bach interpretata dagli Swingle Singers. La formazione, fondata da Ward Swingle, aveva rivoluzionato il mondo del jazz inserendo brani classici. Una formula che, passata attraverso anche la classica e il pop, funziona fino a oggi. Il brano fu scelto da Angela per la sigla delle sue trasmissioni, e che è rimasta la stessa da oltre 3000 puntate. Per questo gli attuali Swingle Singers sono stati invitati da Piero Angela per spiegare il successo dell'ottetto vocale che dura dal 1963. In un quarto d'ora di interviste e filmati saranno illustrate le tecniche del canto e la scelta del repertorio. Una presenza televisiva a pochi giorni dal successo al festival Solevoci a Varese, che raccoglie gli appassionati del genere da tutta Italia.
