"The Gigolos" on BBC 1
If you live in the UK and are fond of London -and the Swingle Singers-tune in to BBC 1 Television on Monday, July 20th at 11:20pm for the TV premiere of The Gigolos. Set in the twilight world of the London male escort scene, the film was shot almost exclusively in London's West End: Westminster, Mayfair, Picadilly and the South Bank. The cast includes many heavyweights of British cinema and theatre, including Grammy-nominated Susannah York, Sian Phillips, and Anna Massey.
About five years ago the production company Punk Cinema and first-time director Richard Bracewell contacted the Swingles to talk about licensing music for this project. The creators wanted a mix of classical and pop music that would represent London and underscore the atmosphere of the movie, which was mostly shot at night; Bach's Prelude in F Minor fit the bill perfectly. The Gigolos was premiered at the AFI Fest in Hollywood in 2005 and released in the UK in 2007. The British Film Institute released the DVD in the UK earlier this year.
Tune in on Monday to watch this charming and intriguing movie about London nightlife! It will also be available on BBC iPlayer for seven days after transmission.
